I've known Jerry for approximately two years now. In
my experience with Jerry, I have yet to meet anyone with his
enthusiasm, knowledge, honesty lolality, quality of work and
personality. His enthusiasm is evident when you see him dismantle a
firearm to find the problem. The knowledge he has , in my opinion, is
unmatched by any other. The day he took time to teach me some things I
should know about how to aim correctly, how to reload accurately, the
good and bad in different types of firearms and the ammunition for
firearms proves to me the knowledge he has comes only with a lifetime
of experience.
When I went to Jerry the first time, I was looking to purchase a 44
magnum lever action rifle with walnut stock and stainless steel barrel.
The deciding factor for me to buy from him was the information he
passed on about the quality of different brands made today not to
mention the best price. The sincerity of his work is commonplace in his
shop and easy to see. It is obvious he loves what he does, which in
turn explains the professionalism within his posession.
I saw his honesty and loyality the day I was there and a man entered
asking him to repair a shotgun. The barrel was bent by being ran over
with a truck. Jerry told him he might be able to straighten it out but
chances were that it would never be the same. To me, honesty matches
truth and truth leads to loyalty.
A few months ago I decided to invest in a long action rifle. Here
again, Jerry's knowledge was the deciding factor in purchasing a 300
Win mag. When it arrived, I immediately wanted to put a customized
thumbhole stock on it. I ordered the stock from a company out of Texas
and when it arrived, Jerry had his work cut out for him. It looked as
if the stock was whittled out of a tree with a pocket knife! A couple
weeks later Jerry called and said it was completed and when I went to
pick it up I couldn't believe it was the same rifle. I think I hurt his
feelings when I said That ain't my gun. The work was so incredibly
beautiful and perfectly trued to fit the rifle and was so professionaly
handcrafted that it should be in a gun show.I sometimes feel guilty
taking it to the woods knowing how much time and effort he put into it.
It's nice to have Jerry around with all his professional qualities and
as a bonus his friendly personality sets him apart from most folks. As
for me, Jerry will be the only one I purchase a firearm from and
definetly the only one I trust to repair them. When you see the
professionalism in his work, you will too.
Sincerely, Don Otto, Shawnee, Okla.
I have been using Martin Custom for all my gunsmithing needs for over
two years now. In that time, my interests in the shooting sports has
grown. The service I have received from Jerry has been outstanding. Not
only in the quality of qorkmanship but also in some other things
gunsmiths tend to overlook. Jerry not only does excellent work but
because of his help, my shooting has improved greatly. When I first
came to his shop, I was new to the shooting sports. His advice on
marksmanship has improved my shooting almost as much as the work he has
done to my rifle. For anyone in need of gunsmithing services, I would
heartily recommend taking their needs to Martin Custom. You won't be
sorry!

I met Jerry thru a website we both frequent. It started with me asking
him some questions about problems with an AMT Lightning 22 rifle I have
owned for several years. Next thing you know, I am sending him the
trigger group for him to work on the horrible 6lbs pull it had since I
bought it. Got it back MUCH improved. I was still having problems with
the rifle so I sent it to him to tweak and tune. He found the problems
easily and after he fixed it, the AMT became my most accurate 22 rifle.
By this time I decided I liked the way Jerry treats his customers. I
had an old 30.06 670-A that my dad bought used and then HE hunted with
it for 15 yrs and the barrel was shot out. I had considered for years
rebarreling it and even thought about having the folks at Shilen do it.
I soon decided that I didn't want to spend that much so I talked to
Jerry about it and now it wears a #3 contour bbl from Shilen and shoots
like a DREAM.
My dad replaced the Winchester with a used Remington 700 in 308. He'd
about shot out the barrel on that rifle also and when he found out
about me having the Winchester rebbled and blued, he asked about how it
shot and looked etc. Well the next thing you know, his rifle is making
a trip to Martin Custom. Got it back 2 days ago, went to the range and
was ecstatic about how it looks and shoots. I'd like to say that Jerry
is the best gunsmith in the business; but honestly I can't. He IS the
best I've ever dealt with. The way he treats me as a customer and the
quality of work he does, he'll be getting ALL of my gunsmith work. He
also gets my recommendation to anyone and everyone who asks me about a
gunsmith. Sincerely,
Paul Johnson, Tuscaloosa AL, and my dad Luther (who doesn't have internet access).
I consider myself very fortunate to have discovered Martin Custom. My
initial Google search returned approximately 80,000 results for
gunsmiths. So, in finding Martin Custom, I feel like I won the Lottery.
The owner, Jerry Martin, is a professional in every sense of the word.
Jerry has completed several projects for me that have included both
metal work and wood work. Jerry's work is always of the highest quality
and completed in a timely manner for a very fair price.
Of equal importance to Jerry's exceptional work is his honesty and
friendly attitude. If you enjoy working on guns and need some advice,
Jerry is happy to help with suggestions and even written instructions
based on his many years of experience. If you are looking for a custom
gunsmith that will treat your gun as if it were his own, I highly
recommend Jerry at Martin Custom.
